Replace your roof

Should You Replace Your Roofing?

Even if your roof seems to be doing its job properly, it is still possible for your roof to reach the end of its lifespan without showing any major failures. When that happens, it can be difficult to know if you should replace your roofing. However, if you replace it at the proper time, you can avoid potential disasters in the future.

How to Know You Should Replace Your Roofing

Look Inside Out

The first thing you should do is start by looking at your roof from the inside of your home. Go to your attic or wherever you can see the interior of your roof and look for any signs of wearing or bigger issues, such as water stains, leaks, and light coming through. It is always good to inspect your roof every couple of years to be sure you catch any issues you probably wouldn’t notice otherwise.

Consider Your Roof’s Age

Roofing has a lifespan and it is important to consider this when deciding if you should replace your roof. Even without obvious signs of failure, a roof at the end of its lifespan can be a disaster waiting to happen if not properly repaired/replaced as needed.

Check for Shingle Damage

The shingles on your home’s roof should also be inspected to look for any cracks, misshapen shingles, or shingles that have curled or bent upwards. Depending on the situation, it may be possible to simply replace shingles as needed, instead of investing in a full roof. Be sure to look for shingle granule loss, which is a sure sign your roof needs some attention, as well to make sure your home is protected as best as possible.

Look for Rotting & Growth

Another thing to look for when inspecting your roofing is damp areas and mold spots. Sagging or dripping with moisture are signs that your roof could be rotting. Most times, it will be necessary to replace the entire roof when water damage has occurred. A rotten roof can grow mold as well. If left untreated, mold can find its way into your home through vents and ducts, which can be a serious health threat to those in your home.
