Dealing With A Kitchen Leak

We all know that the kitchen is the heart of every home, and this room is also the gathering spot for the workplace. It is where potlucks, parties, and holiday celebrations are held, and where everyone heads for lunch hour or gravitates to after a long day at work or school. We recharge here, get caught up, and enjoy those we love and laugh with over food and drink.

It’s also where we wash up, and clean up of any kind will, of course, involve water. Which leads us to our topic: leaks.

Whether a leak is small or large, it’s going to affect your kitchen area. Here are a few things you can do when you are dealing with a kitchen leak:

Refrigerator/Dishwasher

  • If you are finding water coming from under these appliances, you will want to find absorbent materials to stop up the flow right away and contact a maintenance company.

Under The Sink

  • This is a spot that can go unnoticed for a while, especially if it’s a smaller leak. Place absorbent materials under the sink. If it smells musty you may want to scrub it down with a bleach solution. If you actually see mold, a professional mold remediation company will need to come in and help take care of that. Also, make sure to contact your plumbing company to handle equipment issues and failures. Your general contractor will be available for repair of the area after the leak is stopped.

Faucet/Fixtures

  • You will notice leaky kitchen fixtures immediately. You can get them handled right away with a minimum of damage to your property. If you allow a leak of this type to persist, damage to countertops and even the sink itself can become an issue, requiring expensive replacements. The leaks can affect your backsplash, cabinets, and even your flooring, as well, so it’s always a good idea not to ignore even the tiniest leak.
